SBI is the global infrastructures arm of Shikun & Binui Group responsible for the implementation of civil engineering, development and construction projects around the world.

SBI’s first foray into Nigeria was in 1956 when it established a construction company called Nigersol Construction Company Limited together with some Nigerian investors. Among the projects executed by the company is the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife (formerly the University of Ife) which the company designed and constructed. The University remains the most beautiful university campus in Nigeria to date.

SBI then established a business relationship with the defunct Western Region Government in the late 50s. This relationship led to the incorporation of Nigerian Water Resources Development Limited (NWRD) as a joint venture company in 1959. This specialist company executed the majority of the water projects in Southern Nigeria, particularly in the defunct Western and Mid-Western regions.

In November 1969, SBI established a subsidiary in Nigeria called Solel Boneh Overseas and Harbour Works Company Limited (later renamed Solel Boneh (Nigeria) Limited). Within a very short time, the Company carved a niche for itself and became a household name in Nigeria, especially in the Western part of the country where majority of its numerous road and building projects are located.

Prior to the incorporation of Solel Boneh (Nigeria) Limited, another subsidiary of SBI based in New York, USA called Reynolds Construction Company – New York (as part of an international consortium, called Reynolds Brezina & Brown or simply RBB) participated in and won an international bid in 1968 to construct the $32 million Calabar – Ikom Road, financed by USAID in the then Eastern Nigeria. Being an off-shore company, Reynolds Construction Company-New York, applied for and secured a Special Approval of the Nigerian Government on 18 November 1968 to operate in Nigeria as a Foreign Company for the purpose of the Project.

As a result of a flurry of business inquiries received and interest shown in its works, Reynolds Construction Company (Nigeria) Limited was incorporated as a local company in September 1969. It took off with projects in the Eastern part of the Company and later expanded all over the country.

Since then, Reynolds Construction Company (Nigeria) Limited (popularly known by the acronym “RCC”) has continued to operate in many states of the country and has a record of completing numerous building and civil engineering projects across the country in record times to the complete satisfaction of Clients. 1920

The General Organization of Workers in Israel

Founded in 1920 by socialist parties to unite the Jewish workers in the Land of Israel, employees in their professions and self-employed workers with the slogan “Life is on its way”. With the establishment of the State, part of the organization’s activities were transferred to the government. The organization continued to operate as a labour union and managed part of the enterprises of the Israeli economy.

1924

Founding of Solel Boneh

Solel Boneh (Hebrew for “Paving & Building”) was founded by the Histadrut (the General Organization of Workers in Israel), with the aim of uniting the sporadic groups of workers paving the roads and building the new State. It quickly established itself as the largest contractor in Israel. These groups of workers courageously assumed complex pioneering projects, such as building the power plant in Naharayim, paving main roads across Israel, and constructing the first building of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
